Shirlee Clark
Shirlee
Clark spent over two decades with FedEx, beginning when it was Federal
Express. Her colleagues and FedEx executives credit her vision, breadth
of experience, willingness to innovate and team spirit for making
communication a key part of FedEx’s unparalleled growth and
unique corporate culture. She was an early champion of the Spaeth
Influence Model™ and methodology and paved the way for FedEx
to understand the value of a consistent approach to communication.
As former director of Corporate Communications
for FedEx Corporation, a $27 billion global transportation and business
services provider, Clark worked on virtually every aspect of communications.
She managed media relations, executive communications and numerous
special projects, including several TV documentaries. Under her
leadership, the corporate-wide communications team was responsible
for developing and implementing communications for the corporation
and its four core operating companies. She directed a “go-to-market”
team consisting of public relations, media relations and internal
communications for sales, marketing, human resources and information
technology. She pushed for ongoing communication training for FedEx
executives and spokesmen and worked tirelessly for FedEx to be a
local as well as a national and international presence in the communities
it serves.
Clark’s team also developed and implemented
communications strategies and programs to enhance the company’s
reputation and brand. FedEx has long been recognized as one of the
most admired and trusted companies in the U.S. Today, this recognition
extends around the world. The company has been ranked for the past
four years in the Top 10 on both Fortune’s Global Most Admired
and Fortune’s Most Admired U.S. Companies. It also ranks consistently
in the Top 10 on the Harris Interactive Reputation Quotient, which
is published annually in The Wall Street Journal.
Worldwide Communications was an integral part
of the corporation’s two dramatic corporate identity changes
and four major acquisitions during the past decade.
Clark retired from FedEx in 2004 and is
currently a senior consultant with Spaeth
